How to reach Kanda
The Uttrakhand state mainly consists of hilly region. To travel into the hills of Uttrakhand one has to reach to the base stations by train and onward journey is then done by road or travel the complete distance by road. We are providing an overview on train links and bus connections available to move ahead in the journey from New Delhi.

1. Travel by train & Bus:
There are two trains one overnight and one day train. We suggest the overnight train as the day train reaches in the night the night journey I hills is not advisable. Traveling to Kumaun region, the main trains between stations of New-Delhi & Kathgodam (via Haldwani):

  • Ranikhet express - Train # 5013/5014
This is an overnight train having air-conditioned and non air-conditioned sleeper coaches and runs all seven days. It leaves late the evening from old-Delhi railway station and reaches the destination early in the morning and same way in the return journey.
  • Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti express - Train # 5035/5036
This is a day train having air-conditioned and non air-conditioned chair-car coaches and runs daily.
We suggest to get down at Haldwani station NOT Kathgodam, the last station of the train.

NOTE:

  • The reservation centre for tickets in Old Delhi is in the building on the far left. You will have to fill out a form with personal and train details and hand it in with payment. The women’s queue is inside on the far right.
  • New trains are added frequently to the list so there could be more trains between these stations so please check with India railways for the same.
  • We would suggest our guests to book their train tickets at least 45 days in advance if they are traveling holiday season & 30 days in advance normally.
  • Please note that above input provide an overview of the train journey options available and are subjected to change by India railways. We do not take any responsibilities for the information and changes made by the railways department time-to-time.

Journey from Haldwani- After getting down at Haldwani take a hand rickshaw (should charge you 10-20 rupees) or walk to the bus station. You may get a bus by name to Kanda or ask for a bus going to Mushiyari /Berinag ( which are a town ahead of Kanda ) and passing through Bageshwar .Bageshwar comes 45 minutes early from Kanda.

2 Travel by Road:
Direct buses are available from Delhi Anand Vihar, ISBT (Inter state bus terminal),. They come directly to Kanda market i.e Kanda parav in 20 hours .

There are bunch of buses going in the morning between 5.00 am and 8.00 am and again from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm from Anand Vihar ISBT. You may get a bus by name to Kanda or ask for a bus going to mushiyari /Berinag ( which are a town ahead of Kanda ) and passing through Bageshwar for and Bageshwar is 45 minutes early from Kanda. At times there are Air conditioned buses also going in the evening so you can check for the same also. WE SUGGEST DO NOT TRAVEL BY PRIVATE BUSES WHICH START FROM OUTSIDE THE ISBT ANAND VIHAR.

Check bus timetables to make sure you do not arrive after dark as there is no lighting available between the market and the house. It is best to arrive in daylight at all points in your journey. You may need to make transfers in bus terminals if you do not catch a direct bus. You can go directly to Kanda by bus or stop in Bageshwar and take a shared jeep from Bageshwar to Kanda market (ask for Kanda paraw). A shared jeep will cost you about 30 Rs. A private taxi will cost you at least 500 Rs (stick to shared jeeps). There are three shared jeep points in Bageshwar, one of which is the gathering point for Kanda. Ask any jeep driver for Kanda and he will be happy to point you in the right direction.

If you prefer to cut your journey in two, buses also run regularly to Kanda from Haldwani (10 hrs), Nainital (8 hrs), Almora (5 hrs), Kausani (3,5 hrs) and Bageshwar (1,5 hrs).

3. Getting Down at Kanda:
Most buses will drop you off on the main road between Bageshwar and Chaukori. Make sure that someone tells you when to get off. To go to Kanda market, follow the road that goes down the hill for 2-3 km to Kanda market.

Once in Kanda market, follow the road until you reach the temple. Get off the main road by passing nearby the temple (on your left) and then turn left again and follow the road round. The Verma’s house is at about 1 km from the market. There are two forks in the path on the way to the house. Stay on the main path for the first and get off at the second. The house is square, of a reddish colour and has green painted windows and upper storey. You can see it from the path at various points. Instead of turning left behind the temple it’s possible to go right as well but that’s a rockier route - difficult with bags - and the house is less visible.
